The Ecumenical Patriarchate was captured by modernist Ecumenists led by freemason Meletius Metaxakis who issued the notorious 1920 Patriarchal Encyclical which recognised heretics and schismatics as part of the Church, as well as proposing unity with them without any repentance by them and banning proselytization of them.
